The Top 10 Safest Cities in California

Dove Canyon is Rancho Santa Margarita, the green hills, golf course, and homesThe Top 10 Safest Cities in California was released by Moving Waldo and wahoo, Orange County takes 4 seats on the list, including #1! Here is a link the Moving Waldo’s Post List.

Moving Waldo’s Qualifying Measure Parameters

This is the 2023 list which was calculated from data gathered after ending year 2022. They based their ranking on the 3 following criteria: the violent-crime rate, the property crime rate, and the total crime rate (the sum of both property and violent crime rates). Statistics come from the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program and Neighborhood Scouts. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), The UCR Program “includes data from more than 18,000 city, university and college, county, state, tribal, and federal law enforcement agencies. Agencies participate voluntarily and submit their crime data either through a state UCR program or directly to the FBI’s UCR Program”.

Moving Waldo used these data to rank the 10 safest cities in California while also considering their quality of life. To support their ranking, they thought it would be relevant to compare the statistics of the cities concerned with the rates of the State of California.

If you would like to know more about why I feel Rancho Santa Margarita earns it’s #1 spot, I give you here My Top 5 Reasons for Living in Rancho Santa Margarita.

A beautiful scenic view of Temecula Wine Country and the hillsSafest Cities in California Honorable Mentions

PopulationU gave Murrieta over next to Temecula a honorable mention. Temecula and Murrieta are considered sister cities. I am very familiar and I have also lived and have sold homes in Temecula, Murrieta, Winchester, and Menifee. Very nice if you are looking for a more affordable area. All nice but out of them all, Temecula is my favorite.

Money Geek’s has also has a list of safest cities in California, their list is based on cost per crime. While no large cities made the list(they consider over 300,00 a large city), Santa Ana in Orange County made the list as well as San Diego is in their top 15 safest cities in the United States when it comes to rankings of the larger cites.

So many great places in Orange County, I personally like San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano the most. They have beautiful beaches, ocean views, downtown areas with something for everyone.

Can’t forget about Huntington Beach either! It is so popular it even has a nickname “Surf City USA”. There are lots of fun activities to do around there likeIf considering moving to Orange County, you might want to check this out, I have attached a blog for your viewing

Living in California

I have lived here in Southern California all my life. I grew up in Orange County and I am currently living in Orange County. Despite what you hear on the news, it is a beautiful place to live. Yes, as in all states, some areas may have problems and it is expensive but I love it here. There is so much to do and see, to have the beach and mountains so close for your enjoyment, the ambiance of living here makes it worth it, if you can afford it. It’s becoming more and more challenging for the younger generation because of the home prices. I do have a blog on how buying down the interest which may help offset your mortgage cost by hundreds of dollars a month, you might it helpful. #1 Tip for Lowering your Mortgage Payment.

Although the home prices are high, California is ranked 16th on the lowest property taxes so once your home is paid off, it sets you up well for retirement cost. Additionally, they can only raise your property taxes by 2% a year which keeps your property taxes reasonable over time, especially for retirement. The long term expense of living is also worth considering. For example Texas can raise your property taxes by 10% a year and their taxes are already quite high so by the time you retire, you can end up with a high cost of living. Yes, you may not pay state tax however, at retirement social security isn’t a concern for paying state tax here in California either. If you have interest in knowledge about property taxes I have provided understanding property taxes in California here.

I have lived in San Diego for more than 10 years and I loved it there as well. I was offered a job there back in my 20’s when I was a systems analyst/computer programmer. It is a little less expensive and wonderful choice for a home and with a great quality of life. This pic was taken on one of my beach walks in Del Mar, San Diego.
